Tile is used in some retail stores around the country such as Bed, Bath, & Beyond, or Crate & Barrel. You can find tile in many linens stores or furniture outlets. Many malls are tiled, as well as hotel entranceway. Tile is quite pervasive. It’s just one of those thing most of us don’t happen to notice until someone points it out to us. Now that you have an eye for tile, you wait and see, it’ll be all around you.
That said, commercial grade tile is generally of a different caliber than consumer grade tile. It is hardier and more robust. Naturally, this is because commercial areas generally receive very high rates of foot-traffic. This added wear and tear can grind down consumer grade tile surprisingly fast. However, with commercial caliber tile, the surface is fortified with special resins that make it extremely resilient. The type of tile you’ll see in a hotel foyer is comprised of this stratum of tile.
Tile has been employed in the commercial venue for a very long time because of many of the same benefits it offers to the individual consumer. That is, it is enduring, visually-appealing, impermeable, easily-maintained, and reasonably priced.
